  Leonidas Chocolates from Belgium

Leonidas Belgian Chocolates in the UK

Leonidas chocolate direct

Leonidas are famous around the world - as is Belgium for having the greatest chocolatiers in the world. Almost everyone who visits Belgium will come back with a carton of Leonidas chocolates...if they manage not to eat them on the way home. Leonidas chocolates taste so different because when they are sold to you, they are always fresh. Many other chocolates are compromised by pre-packaging and being designed to spend time on supermarket shelves. This can be true of even some of the most prestigious chocolate brands. That's just not the case with Leonidas, their chocolates are boxed up for you on the day you order..

As you'd expect, Leonidas makes no quality compromises whatsoever. For example, Leonidas chocolates are made with 100% cocoa butter, with fresh ingredients including fresh cream and butter in their butter creams to give them a unique flavour and set them apart from the rest.

Needless to say, if you buy Leonidas chocolates , because they are fresh they must be stored carefully, and never kept for too long. Leonidas chocolates should be stored in a cool dark place, below 18°C. Leonidas recommend that their chocolates should be eaten within 21 days of purchase - though we don't think that warning is necessary - you'll find they go very quickly! You can order the chocolates to be delivered on a particular day to make sure they are as fresh as possible.

A bit more about Belgian Chocolates

What is a "praline"?

The Belgians use the word "praline" for all chocolate with a filling. Whereas in the UK you may see the term praline used for a special type of chocolate made with a paste of sugar, chocolate and nuts, in Belgium the term is much more generic. So don't be surprised if you see a lot of pralines for sale! Another type of popular Belgian chocolate is called a "Butter cream". Butter cream chocolates have a delicious, fresh, flavoured soft filling made from butter, milk and fresh cream, and flavoured with a variety of fruits, vanilla or coffee.

Are Leonidas chocolates popular in Belgium?

Yes of course! In a recent survey in Belgium( called the "Compétition des marques 2003"), over half the Belgians who responded said that Leonidas are the most highly-rated chocolates in Belgium...

How long have Leonidas been making chocolates?

Leonidas was founded in 1910 in Belgium in 1910 by Leonidas Kesdekidis, a Greek Man, who came to Brussels as part of the Greek delegation of the US at the International Exposition. He won the Bronze Medal and decided to stay! The company stay in the Kesdekidis family when in 1935, Basile Kesdekidis, Leonidas' nephew, took over. He built on the same tradition of freshness and quality and when he became head of the company he incorporated the famous Leonidas logo showing the head of Leonidas the King of Sparta and famous Greek warrior that you see below!
