The White Company was founded in 1994 and specialises in supplying a wide range of stylish home accessories and clothing, often, as their name suggests, in white.
The White Company started as a short mail-order brochure and had its 10th year birthday celebrations in 2004.
THE IDEA
The idea for the company began in August 1993, when The White Company founder, spotted a gap in the market for beautiful but affordable home accessories in white. A group of young entrepreneurs were all in the process of re-stocking new homes, but could not find a good collection for white bed linen, plain towels, napkins etc. The idea for The White Company was born, and they agreed to supply the products via mail order, to help ensure that their prices competitive. The ideas of white products and mail order were combined, and all that was left was to make it happen…
THE EARLY DAYS
For the first six months The White Company was run as a family business from one of their bedrooms. The house became overrun with the first few boxes of The White Company's products and brochures were sent out. It was all a bit of a gamble, but they had great faith in their concept and kept going despite the uncomfortable working conditions!
TEN YEARS ON…
Now, besides supplying loyal customers with beautiful white bed linen and towels, The White Company product range has expanded massively. There have been products for kids for many years, from clothing and bed linen to accessories and furniture. And so, to showcase the number and variety of these products, a second Little White Company shop has been opened in Autumn 2005 opposite The White Company store on Marylebone High Street.
